Edwards and Neer Talk UFC 61 on Beatdown
With UFC 61: "Bitter Rivals" just days away TJ De Santis and Sherdog.com editor Josh Gross focus
on Saturday night's card. The UFC is working hard on establishing its lightweight division as one
that fans will look forward to seeing. Last week TJ and Josh spoke with Joe Stevenson (Pictures), who is cutting
down from welterweight to lightweight to take on Yves Edwards (Pictures).
On Thursday Yves joins "Beatdown" to discuss his opponent and the fight at hand. Edwards talks about
his loss against Mark Hominick (Pictures) and how that has affected him. Yves touches on his plans in the UFC
and PRIDE, and how he plans on taking out the reality show winner.
Josh Neer (Pictures) is an up-and-coming fighter out of the Midwest. Before debuting in the UFC last August Neer
spent most of his MMA career as an amateur fighting in a small bar out of Des Moines, Iowa. Since
getting to the UFC Neer has defeated two fighters from the welterweight division of The Ultimate Fighter
season two. Neer first took out Melvin Guillard (Pictures) with a triangle choke after getting cut badly, and then took
out TUF 2 welterweight winner Joe Stevenson (Pictures) via unanimous decision.
This Saturday night Neer looks to take out another reality star in "The People's Warrior" Josh Burkman (Pictures). Burkman
found early success after the TUF show making quick work of Sammy Morgan and Drew Fickett (Pictures). Burkman dropped a fight
to Jon Fitch (Pictures) due to a rear-naked choke and now is looking to get back on the winning track. Neer talks about his
opponent, training with the Miletich Fighting Systems, and his journey to the UFC.
