UFC Live 6 ‘Cruz vs. Johnson’ Nets 789,000 Viewers on Versus

The UFC felt a slight increase in ratings on Saturday from its previous effort on cable network Versus, as UFC Live 6 earned 789,000 viewers on average. Sherdog.com confirmed the viewership figure Tuesday with an industry source following an initial report from MMAJunkie.com.

The UFC’s first trip to the nation’s capital, UFC Live 6 emanated from the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The Oct. 1 event was headlined by a bantamweight title bout between champion Dominick Cruz and game challenger Demetrious Johnson. Though “Mighty Mouse” acquitted himself well in his first title fight, Cruz’s size and wrestling ability ultimately won the day, as “The Dominator” retained his title via unanimous decision.

As mentioned, the UFC saw a marginal jump in average viewership from UFC Live 5, which drew in 766,000 viewers. Of the six events, the promotion’s inaugural Versus card remains the most-watched program in the series. UFC Live 1, which featured a Jon Jones-Brandon Vera main event, earned 1.24 million viewers in March 2010.

The series’ low came one year later at UFC Live 3. Headlined by a bloody, back-and-forth welterweights scrap between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann, the program took in an average of 681,000 viewers.
