UFC Fight Night 28 Weigh-In Results: Headliners Glover Teixeira, Ryan Bader Hit Marks

Ryan Bader has no intention of serving as a stepping stone for Glover Teixeira, the No. 1 contender in waiting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight division.

Bader checked in at 205 pounds for his five-round battle with Teixeira (206) in the UFC Fight Night 28 main event on Wednesday at Jornalista Felipe Drumond Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The 10 other men slated for main-card work, including middleweight co-headliners Yushin Okami (185) and Ronaldo Souza (186), also met their mandatory weight requirements at Tuesday’s official weigh-in.

Teixeira will enter the cage on a 19-fight winning streak. The 33-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt last fought at UFC 160 in May, when he submitted James Te Huna with a first-round guillotine choke at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A longtime training partner of UFC hall of famer Chuck Liddell, Teixeira sports 15 first-round finishes on his resume. In October 2012, he was behind one of the more violent performances in recent memory, as he landed 117 strikes, 85 of them significant, in a second-round technical knockout against Fabio Maldonado.

Bader has recorded three wins in his past four appearances, a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC on Fox 4 the lone blemish. The 30-year-old Power MMA Team representative last competed at UFC on Fox 6 in January, when he needed less than a minute -- 50 seconds to be exact -- to dispatch former International Fight League champion Vladimir Matyushenko with a guillotine choke at the United Center in Chicago. A decorated amateur wrestler, Bader was a two-time NCAA All-American and three-time Pac-10 conference champion at Arizona State University. He burst on the MMA scene in 2008, winning Season 8 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

UFC Fight Night 28 “Teixeira vs. Bader” -- which airs at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Fox Sports 1 -- will also feature a lightweight scrap pitting Francisco Trinaldo (155) against Piotr Hallmann (155), a middleweight clash matching Rafael Natal (185) with “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 17 alum Tor Troeng (185) and a pair of flyweight tilts, as Team Alpha Male’s Joseph Benavidez (126) locks horns with Jussier da Silva (126) and Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini (126) faces Ali Bagautinov (125).

Two hours prior, Fox Sports 1 will also carry four preliminary bouts: Felipe Arantes (146) vs. Edimilson Souza (146), Elias Silverio (169) vs. Joao Zeferino (170), Lucas Martins (136) vs. Ramiro Hernandez (135) and Ivan Jorge (169) vs. Keith Wisniewski (170). The remaining undercard match will stream live to the UFC’s Facebook page at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT, as Yuri Villefort (170) collides with Sean Spencer (171).
