T.J. Brown, Dusko Todorovic, Peter Barrett Snag UFC Contracts on DWCS Season Finale

The Ultimate Fighting Championship family grew by three on Season 3, Episode 10 of Dana White’s Contender Series, as T.J. Brown, Dusko Todorovic and Peter Barrett snagged contracts on Tuesday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

A Legacy Fighting Alliance veteran, Brown submitted Team Sityodtong’s Dylan Lockard with an arm-triangle choke in the third round of their featherweight pairing. Lockard (5-2) conceded defeat 2:59 into Round 3, his modest two-fight winning streak at an end.

Brown (11-6) overcome a knockdown and a point deduction in the first round, executed repeated takedowns and flexed his superiority in the scrambles to turn the tide in his favor. He scrambled to Lockard’s back midway through the third round, advanced to the back and caught the choke when his counterpart turned to face him.

The 29-year-old Brown has rattled off three straight victories.

A crushing clinch game, superb head movement and a stout chin carried Todorovic to a unanimous decision over Unified MMA champion Teddy Ash in a three-round encounter at 185 pounds. All three judges sided with the unbeaten Todorovic (9-0): 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.

Ash (14-5) made the Serbian prospect earn the ground he gained. He appeared to have Todorovic reeling on more than one occasion with multi-punch combinations but too often failed to successfully manage distance. Ash wandered into the clinch repeatedly and found himself pinned to the fence while absorbing punches and elbows. By the time it was over, Todorovic had opened a gash on the Canadian’s right cheek and another cut above his right eye.

A former Cage Titans Fighting Championship titleholder Barrett leaned on takedowns, grit and a superior gas tank, as he laid claim to a unanimous decision over Sang Hoon Yoo in a three-round lightweight affair. All three cageside judges scored it the same: 29-28 for Barrett (9-2).

Yoo (6-0) overwhelmed the Mark DellaGrotte protégé with multi-pronged offense in the first round, where he executed a takedown, moved to the mounted crucifix and threatened with an armbar. Later, the 29-year-old South Korean unleashed flying knees, knees on the break and powerful punches. None of it was enough to dissuade Barrett, and by the start of the second round, Yoo was running on fumes. Barrett seized control with a dogged clinch and repeated takedowns, controlling a majority of the exchanges across the final 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, Gym-O prospect Impa Kasanganay kept his perfect professional record intact, as he captured a unanimous decision over hyped Black House prospect Kailan Hill in a three-round middleweight tilt. Kasanganay (3-0) swept the scorecards with 30-27 marks from all three judges.

Hill (4-1) cut loose with his patented fast-twitch offense but paid a price for his lack of discipline. A far more measured Kasanganay countered effectively throughout the 15-minute battle, dumped the Legacy Fighting Alliance veteran to the mat in the first round, achieved full mount in the second and assumed top position again in the third, where he alternated between ground-and-pound and choke attempts.

In other action, a heavyweight scrap between “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 28 alum Ben Sosoli (6-2) and Dustin Joynson (5-0) resulted in a no-contest 2:08 into the first round. Sosoli inadvertently thumbed Joynson in the eye in a close-quarters exchange, rendering him unable to continue.
