It seems the whole SBG Ireland crew are getting back together for Conor McGregor’s much-anticipated return with striking Coach Owen Roddy the latest to confirm he’ll be in the Irishman’s corner in his expected bout in January.

Roddy had announced at the end of 2018 he would be moving on from SBG Ireland gym after 15 years there to focus on his own gym, Owen Roddy MMA PT and SBG Charlestown.

There were reports that Roddy and McGregor had a falling out, but that has been put to bed when MMAJunkie.com asked if both he and John Kavanagh will again be in the corner of “The Notorious” when he plans to return to the Octagon on Jan. 18, 2020.

“Yup, yup, yup -- yeah definitely, yeah,” Roddy said.

UFC President Dana White had stated that the promotion is trying to pair McGregor with fan-favorite Donald Cerrone, although nothing has been made official. However, Roddy said he would be excited for that fight as it would mean the bout would most likely stay standing.

“If it is ‘Cowboy,’ it would be an exciting fight,” Roddy said. “I said this a couple of months ago: ‘Cowboy’ and Conor is a great fight for the fans. Two guys that are exciting strikers; although ‘Cowboy’ is phenomenal on the ground, as well, but I think if it was a fight between them, it would be a striking battle, and I think it would be one for the fans, so if it is that, it’ll be an exciting one.” Advertisement
