5 Things You Might Not Know About Ricky Glenn

Those in the know have learned to depend on Ricky Glenn to bring the violence.

The unassuming Marshalltown, Iowa, native will pen the next pages in his story whenever he makes his first appearance of 2022—a scheduled March 12 booking opposite Drew Dober fell through when Glenn suffered a torn groin in training—inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s lightweight division. Glenn, 33, has pieced together a 4-3-1 record since he joined the UFC roster five-plus years ago. He last appeared at UFC Fight Night 196, where he fought to a majority draw with Grant Dawson on Oct. 23.

As Glenn continues his recovery, here are five things you might not know about him:

1. He fought long before he developed his man strength.

Glenn made his professional mixed martial arts debut at the age of 17 when he struck Bob Morgan into submission 2:25 into the second round of their War Party Cage Fighting 3 pairing on July 29, 2006. He compiled a perfect 2-0 record as a teenager.

2. Consistency has given him staying power.

The Duke Roufus disciple has not yet suffered back-to-back defeats as a pro. Glenn has followed each of his six setbacks with at least one win. In fact, he once went more than four years between losses.

3. Summits are within his reach.

Glenn was one of only five men to hold the World Series of Fighting featherweight championship. Lance Palmer (twice), Georgi Karakhanyan, Alexandre Almeida and Andre Harrison were the others. Glenn captured the title with a second-round technical knockout against Karakhanyan at WSOF 10 on June 21, 2014 and surrendered it when he submitted to a rear-naked choke from Palmer in the third round of their WSOF 16 confrontation on Dec. 13, 2014. His 176-day reign was the shortest in the division’s history.

4. His chin stands up to scrutiny.

Despite his propensity for being lured into firefights, Glenn has never been stopped via strikes in his 30-fight career. By comparison, he has delivered more than half (13) of his 22 victories by knockout or technical knockout. The highlight? A 37-second stoppage of Joaquim Silva at UFC on ESPN 25 in June.

5. Room on his passport remains.

Glenn, while vastly experienced at this stage of his journey, has yet to compete outside of North America. He has gone 19-6-2 in the United States and 3-0 in Canada.
