Hill vs. Kasanganay
Kailan Hill vs. Impa Kasanganay
Hill is one of the most exciting prospects in all of MMA. At 5-0, he has a knack for delivering the highlight-reel knockout. The uber-athletic southpaw sits on his punches and generates bone-crushing power in every blow. He has three knockouts in the first two minutes of a fight. His kicks are deadly, and he works them to the body and head. The 24-year-old loves to excite crowds with attacks of the high-flying or spinning variety. The Black House member has authored knockouts by spinning backfist and Superman punch, and he has also rocked opponents with flying knees. Takedown defense might be the Achilles heel for the Californian.
Like Hill, Kasanganay also has a perfect 5-0 professional mark. The 25-year-old has compiled his record while competing in top regional promotions like the Legacy Fighting Alliance, King of the Cage and Island Fights. The Gym-O team member is a stalking striker but can make the mistake of not throwing enough volume. When he does, he works behind a crisp jab, a nice check left hook and a powerful overhand right -- a punch he tends to telegraph by loading up when he throws it. He is susceptible to leg kicks because he put a lot of weight on his lead foot. The North Carolina native is good at battling in close quarters. Inside the clinch, he dispatches uppercuts, knees and even foot stomps. “Tshilobo” will also look for inside trips from the clinch. Once on top, he gives his opponents a shellacking with hard ground-and pound. The biggest weakness in Kasanganay’s game is his takedown defense, and an inability to scramble back to his feet is particularly problematic.
Kasanganay’s ground game is a big hole, so he will want to keep this fight on the feet. He should not have any issue doing so with Hill, who also prefers to throw fisticuffs. Kasanganay could conceivably close the distance and have his way in the clinch, but Hill figures to make it tough to get inside with his powerful kicks and punches. Look for him to find Kasanganay’s chin with a kick and send him crashing to the canvas in an unconscious heap in the opening round. Having one of the season’s most memorable knockouts, Hill nets a UFC contract.
