Silva de Andrade is nearing the age where his game could fall apart at any moment, but perhaps “D’Silva” has at least one more good scrap left in him. Silva de Andrade is an elite-level athlete who didn’t start with much formal training, so he came to the UFC as a highly effective tank of jank. His fighting style might not be particularly pretty, but it’s typically a sure bet that the Brazilian will uncork at least a few moments of impressive violence upon his opponent. That package has made Silva de Andrade a bit of a cult favorite. The flaws in his game have resulted in his getting picked apart against top-level competition, and an inactive schedule has kept him from ever having much promotional momentum. However, those who recognize his name know he’s often a must-watch fighter. With that said, a loss to Miles Johns in June was a disappointingly flat affair, so it would be nice to see Silva de Andrade have some sort of rebound against a willing dance partner in Castaneda. While Castaneda’s results can be a bit hard to parse, he’s another fighter who often provides plenty of excitement, as a lot of his approach is built around forcing constant exchanges. That leads to a lot of variance, save for when Castaneda is technically outgunned. He can overwhelm higher-level athletes like Johns and Muin Gafurov but also get finished by a more aggressive wildman like Daniel Santos. Either outcome is on the table against a high-level athlete with an unorthodox game like Silva de Andrade. It seems likely that this will be a close decision where Silva de Andrade has the most impactful moments in a fight where Castaneda has more consistent success. There seems to be less to worry about when it comes to Castaneda at the moment, but this is essentially a coinflip. The pick is Castaneda via decision.
