Olivier Aubin-Mercier Aims to Bring PFL to Montreal Next Year

2022 Professional Fighters League 155-pound titleholder Olivier Aubin-Mercier wants to compete in front of his hometown crowd once again.

Aubin-Mercier (17-5, 6-0 PFL) can feel pretty satisfied with his 2022, which concluded on a high note after he defeated fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship alum Steven Ray in the 2022 PFL Championships. Not only did “The Canadian Gangster” capture the lightweight championship on that occasion, but he knocked an opponent out cold for the first time in his 22-bout career thanks to a vicious right hand. In the post-fight interview, Aubin-Mercier asked for the promotion to visit Canada, and more specifically Quebec, next year. While talking with Sherdog, Aubin-Mercier pushed back his previous intentions of retiring and reiterated his wish to see a PFL event in Montreal, revealing that he got half a promise the American promotion might actually do it.

“I really think I'm gonna try to bring PFL in Montreal. There was so many people in New York that came from Montreal, came from Quebec, and I think it showed PFL that Montreal is ready to get an event. I think people would be there if PFL comes. I'm looking forward to have a fight here in Montreal. […] Like I said, I think it really showed them that a lot of people would be there. Right after I said that on the mic in my post-fight interview, they were like, ‘Yeah, we're gonna try to go to Montreal next year. I think you did it. Montreal deserved that.’”
