Three men walked out of UFC Fight Night 33 with an additional $50,000 in hand, as Antonio Silva, Mark Hunt and Mauricio Rua all pocketed post-fight bonuses.
UFC officials announced the awards at Brisbane Entertainment Center in Brisbane, Australia, revealing that Hunt and Silva earned “Fight of the Night” for their five-round main event, while Rua took home “Knockout of the Night” after his first-round finish of James Te Huna.
Silva and Hunt battled to a 25-minute draw in the evening’s heavyweight headliner, with “Bigfoot” taking control early before Hunt battled back with a knockdown in the third. Round four would see both men dole out and absorb significant damage, as would round five, as the exhausted veterans emptied their gas tanks in search of a finish that would not come. In spite of the bout being scored a majority draw, both men also received their win bonuses, according to UFC President Dana White.
In the co-main event, Rua wasted no time in dispatching Te Huna, catching the New Zealander with a crisp counter left hook as he entered the pocket exposed with a lead left uppercut. The result was spectacular, as Te Huna instantly lost consciousness and dropped to the floor as dead weight. “Shogun” followed him down to dish out more offense, but the fight was mercifully waved off just 63 seconds after it had begun.
