Heavyweight Move Loading? Alex Pereira Tips Scales at More Than 240 Pounds

Alex Pereira is currently walking around at big man weight.

In a video posted to his Instagram account, the former UFC two-division champion is seen weighing in at nearly 244 pounds. While “Poatan” has expressed interest in a move to heavyweight in the past, he has thus far competed in the Octagon at 205 and 185 pounds — winning titles in both divisions.

After successfully defending the light heavyweight crown three times, Pereira relinquished the strap to Magomed Ankalaev in a unanimous decision loss at UFC 313 on March 8. While a rematch is expected to take place at some point this year, Ankalaev has grown impatient waiting for Pereira, claiming that the popular Brazilian was ”never coming back.”

Did ‘Poatan’ Just Tease a Move to Heavyweight?

The former Glory Kickboxing star recently dismissed that notion, however, and said that he plans to fight again in the fall.

"People are used to seeing me fighting all the time. Now I'm resting my body a little,” Pereira said on UFC Fight Pass Brazil. “The next fight should be in October. September, October or November.”

With a potential fight camp still months away, Pereira would still have plenty of time to get down to the light heavyweight limit. However, if he did transition to heavyweight, he would instantly become a potential target for both reigning champ Jon Jones and interim title holder Tom Aspinall. UFC CEO Dana White recently promised to have “answers” on a potential booking between Jones and Aspinall within the next two weeks.
