‘Chiquerim’ to Debut at UFC ‘Fight for the Troops 2’

Now fully healthy, Brazilian lightweight prospect Willamy Freire (Pictured) will finally make his promotional debut when he takes on Waylon Lowe at UFC “Fight for the Troops 2” on Jan. 22 at Fort Hood military base outside Killeen, Texas.

Freire was scheduled to make his first UFC appearance in August, at UFC 118 against fellow Brazilian Thiago Tavares. However, a knee injury forced him out of the bout, delaying his debut. However, the Fortaleza native is fully recovered and is set to begin his training camp shortly in Rio.

“Chiquerim is recovered and is training; in the coming weeks, he arrives here in Rio de Janeiro to train with our team,” Nova Uniao leader Andre Pederneiras told Sherdog.com.

The 23-year-old Brazilian last saw action on May 30, when he defended the Shooto world 154-pound title against Yusuke Endo, winning a split decision. After the bout, Freire vacated the belt, announcing he was bound for the UFC. By signing onto the Jan. 22 bill, he joins Nova Uniao teammate Amilcar Alves, who is scheduled to take on Charlie Brenneman on the undercard.

Lowe is coming off his first win in the Octagon in September, when he bested Steve Lopez by split decision at UFC 119 in Indianapolis.
