Shane
Carwin was also recovering from illness when it was reported
Monday that an ill UFC heavyweight champion Brock
Lesnar had withdrawn from his bout with Carwin at UFC 106 on
Nov. 21 in Las Vegas.
“Last week was the first week that I actually started feeling better from a strain of the swine flu,” Carwin wrote on his official blog Tuesday at www.shane-carwin.com. “I had lost over 15 pounds (something I could not afford to loose) and had just pulled some muscles in my leg during training.”
Carwin wrote that he nearly cancelled his promotional engagements
at UFC 104 last week to hype up his UFC 106 bout, because he felt
he needed to stay home and recover. However, he said he relented
and attended them all for the fans.
Carwin also wrote that he was notified of the bout’s postponement by the media.
“My initial reaction was disappointment,” wrote Carwin. “My heart honestly sank as I thought about my family and friends making the trip, and all the training, preparation and excitement I had for this fight.”
Carwin posted to his Twitter account Tuesday that he’d received a new bout agreement for the fight at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas.
