Andy Ruiz Jr. Gets Heavier, Anthony Joshua Slims Down Ahead of Heavyweight Rematch

Andy Ruiz Jr. managed to shock the boxing world back in June when he knocked out Anthony Joshua in just seven rounds to win the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation, and World Boxing Organization heavyweight titles.

Ruiz Jr. (33-1, 22 KO) entered the bout against Joshua as a late replacement after Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller failed a drug test. Despite an impressive 32-1 record at the time, Ruiz Jr. was looked at as a massive underdog going into the bout, with Joshua closing as a favorite upwards of -3000. The bout was far more memorable than the odds would have suggested, as Ruiz Jr. was able to knock Joshua down four times before the referee had seen enough. The win was by far the biggest of the Mexican-American's career, as he had previously come up short in his 2016 title fight against Joseph Parker. The self-professed Snickers fan came in at a sizable 283 pounds, 15 pounds heavier than he weighed in June.

Joshua (22-1, 21 KO) will be looking to prove that the first loss of his career was a fluke, and is a slight -275 favorite to do just that. The Olympic gold medalist has been beloved in his native England since the 2012 games, and made his mark as a pro by knocking out and retiring Wladimir Klitschko in 2017. He had stayed perfect prior the loss to Ruiz Jr., knocking out Alexander Povetkin and capturing a decision over Parker in 2018. Joshua looked as impressive as ever and weighed in at 237 pounds, a whole 10 pounds slimmer than his first meeting with Ruiz Jr.

Rounding out the Saudi Arabia card are two notable heavyweight bouts as Povetkin (35-2, 24 KO) takes on Michael Hunter (18-1, 12 KO), while Dillian Whyte (26-1, 18 KO) looks to stay busy against Mariusz Wach (33-5, 17 KO).

Ruiz Jr. vs. Joshua 2 Weigh-in Results:

Dillian Whyte (271) vs. Mariusz Wach (270)
