Tony Ferguson: By The Numbers

Tony Ferguson has nothing left to accomplish as a contender.

“The Ultimate Fighter 13” winner will take on Xtreme Couture’s Kevin Lee for the interim Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title in the UFC 216 main event this Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The man who emerges with his hand raised figures to be in line for a blockbuster unification bout with undisputed champion Conor McGregor, provided the “Notorious” Irishman does not decide to take another detour away from mixed martial arts. Ferguson has compiled a stellar 12-1 record since he joined the UFC roster a little more than six years ago, establishing himself as one of the world’s premier lightweights and one of the sport’s most exciting competitors. “El Cucuy” last competed at UFC Fight Night 98 on Nov. 5, when he captured a five-round unanimous decision from former champion Rafael dos Anjos in what was arguably the most significant victory of his career.

As he barrels ahead toward his high-stakes showdown with Lee, here are some of the numbers that have come to define Ferguson:

5.22: Strikes landed per minute, according to FightMetric. That figure makes Ferguson the fourth-most prolific striker among lightweights on the active UFC roster. He trails only Dustin Poirier (6.72), Evan Dunham (5.68) and John Makdessi (5.23).

7: Career victories by submission. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt under Eddie Bravo, Ferguson has posted three wins by brabo choke, two wins by rear-naked choke, one win by triangle choke and one win by shoulder choke.

8: Post-fight bonuses won. The UFC has awarded Ferguson three bonuses for “Fight of the Night,” three for “Performance of the Night,” one for “Knockout of the Night” and one for “Submission of the Night.” His total haul: $400,000.

9: Consecutive victories ahead of his battle with Lee. It ranks as the longest winning streak in the history of the UFC lightweight division.

9: First-round finishes on his resume. His list of victims: Frank Park, Daniel Hernandez, Devin Benjamin, Chris Kennedy, Ramsey Nijem, Aaron Riley, Mike Rio, Katsunori Kikuno and Gleison Tibau.

13: Submissions attempted inside the Octagon, tying him with Clay Guida for eight-most among current UFC lightweights behind Jim Miller (38), Joe Lauzon (29), Nate Diaz (21), Nik Lentz (20), Matt Wiman (18), Tibau (16) and Evan Dunham (15).

33: Years of age. Ferguson was born on Feb. 12, 1984 in Oxnard, California.

81: Percentage of takedowns he has successfully defended in the UFC.

289: Total strikes by which he has outlanded his opponents during his current winning streak.

1,981: Days since his most recent loss -- a unanimous decision to Michael Johnson at UFC on Fox 3 in May 2012.
