By the Numbers: Tony Ferguson vs. Donald Cerrone

The ordering process for Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-views has changed: UFC 238 is only available on ESPN+ in the U.S.

Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone could well be facing each other’s biggest test when they step inside the Octagon for UFC 238. As they try to inch closer to a title shot this Saturday, take a look at some numbers relevant to this intense encounter.

Winning streak

Ferguson holds one of the longest active winning streaks in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at 11. During that long stretch, he has scored wins over the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Anthony Pettis, Kevin Lee and Edson Barboza to name a few. The victory over Lee afforded him the interim lightweight championship, although he was later stripped of it because of an injury.

After dropping a decision to Leon Edwards, Cerrone has been exceptional, demolishing Mike Perry, Alexander Hernandez and Al Iaquinta to complete a three-fight winning streak. Before that, his longest winning run was eight, which spanned from November 2013 to May 2015.

Championship experience

Cerrone has fought for the title five times and was successful once in his professional career. In only his fourth professional bout, Cerrone tapped out Jesse Brock to claim the Ring of Fire lightweight championship. He also fought for the World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight title three times, losing twice to Benson Henderson and once to Jamie Varner. In the UFC, he challenged and lost to dos Anjos for the lightweight strap.

Ferguson has experienced the championship lights twice, beating Brock Jardine for the vacant PureCombat welterweight title and as mentioned, Lee for the interim UFC lightweight championship. In addition, Ferguson won The Ultimate Fighter 13 by knocking out Ramsey Njiem in the finals.

Post-fight bonuses

Looking at the number of post-fight bonuses between Ferguson and Cerrone, you’ll know that their upcoming bout will be a barnburner. “El Cucuy” has nine while “Cowboy” has 17, for a total of 26 post-fight bonuses combined.

Ferguson owns four Fight of the Night (versus Barboza, Lando Vannata, dos Anjos and Pettis), three Performance of the Night (versus Barboza, Josh Thomson and Gleison Tibau), one Knockout of the Night (versus Nijem) and one Submission of the Night (versus Mike Rio) awards.

Meanwhile, owner of the most post-fight bonuses in UFC history, Cerrone prides of having earned seven Performance of the Night (versus Barboza, Jim Miller, Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote, Rick Story, Perry and Hernandez), five Fight of the Night (versus Paul Kelly, Nate Diaz, Melvin Guillard, Hernandez and Iaquinta), three Knockout of the Night (versus Charles Oliveira, Melvin Guillard and Adriano Martins) and two Submission of the Night (versus Dennis Siver and Evan Dunham) honors.

Finishing rate

Expect fireworks when any of these two lightweights are in the cage. One of them, Cerrone, has broken the record for most finishes in UFC history, which now stands at 16. In all, he owns 17 victories by submission and 10 by KO or TKO, making for a 75 percent finishing rate.

Ferguson, on the other hand, owns a total of 19 finishes, 11 by KO or TKO and eight by submission. That accounts for an impressive 79 percent finishing rate.
