I get that fans are ticked off about UFC 153 going down the crapper, but is it just me or did Frankie Edgar dodge a huge bullet? Now he can get his feet wet in the division, get comfortable making 145 pounds and have time to figure out how to defend Aldo's kicks. With Aldo's injury issues, Edgar could be in a better position whenever they do fight. -- Trent from Duluth

As it stands, Aldo is regarded by most as being head and shoulders above the rest of that division. No disrespect intended to Erik Koch, Chad Mendes, Ricardo Lamas, Hatsu Hioki and everybody else doing damage in the Top 10, but would you really favor any of those guys to beat Edgar, even in his featherweight foray?
In my mind, Edgar deserved the immediate crack at Aldo, and I'm not convinced the result would have been any different had “The Answer” been given a warmup bout prior to challenging for the belt. It is all but common knowledge at this point that Edgar should have no trouble making the featherweight limit, so I'm not sure what type of advantage the New Jersey native would have acquired by first fighting one of those aforementioned names prior to clashing with Aldo.
The way I see it, Aldo-Edgar is an eventuality to which we will all be treated at some point, provided both men can stay healthy. Whether it happens, next month or next year, I believe that both fighters will need to be at their best if they hope to walk away the winner and gain some serious pound-for-pound credibility as a result. Admittedly, it is disappointing that we will not be treated to that confrontation on Oct. 13, but it's not the end of the world. As long as Edgar is serious about trying to join the short list of two-division UFC champions, the future is bright for featherweight fight fans.
