Anderson Silva may soon know the identity of his next challenger. | File Photo

Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White appears to have whittled down the list of potential challengers for middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva to two men: Rashad Evans and Chris Weidman.

Evans must first clear the considerable hurdle in front of him in a showdown with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the UFC 156 co-main event. A longtime standout at 205 pounds, he lost a unanimous decision to champion Jon Jones in April, the result perhaps facilitating a divisional move. Evans has compiled a stellar 12-2-1 mark since joining the UFC, with all but one of those bouts taking place at 205 pounds.

The unbeaten Weidman has plenty of hype and substance surrounding him. A Serra-Longo Fight Team representative, the 28-year-old last fought at UFC on Fuel TV 4 in June, when he delivered a vicious finish against Mark Munoz. Weidman remains a bit of a question mark, however, as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery.
