UFC
214 isn’t the only fight event loaded with top-level,
championship quality matchups. On Saturday night at Barclays Center
in Brooklyn, New York, a pair of multi-divisional world champions
will collide as Mikey Garcia will fight Adrien Broner.
The two will lock horns in a special junior welterweight attraction, with the action to be broadcast to the masses live on Showtime. At Friday afternoon’s official weigh-ins, both Broner and his undefeated opponent came in right on target, setting the stage for what should be an intriguing night of boxing.
Broner (33-2, 24 KOs) has quietly won three straight bouts since
losing on points to Shawn Porter in Las Vegas two years ago. A
former world champion at super featherweight, lightweight, super
lightweight and welterweight, “The Problem” is anxious to continue
his surge toward another crack at a world title and it starts with
Garcia. Broner, from Cincinnati, weighed in officially at 138.75
pounds.
Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) has long been one of the best young lions in the sport. The Oxnard native scooped up world titles at featherweight and super featherweight before taking two years off due to complications with management and promoters. Garcia eventually returned to action and knocked out Dejan Zlaticanin in the third to win the WBC lightweight crown in January. For his non-title affair with Broner, Garcia came in at 139.5 pounds.
The Garcia-Broner main card will be televised live on Showtime beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Showtime will also stream the prelims live on its YouTube and Facebook Live channels, which begins at 7:15 p.m. ET/4:15 p.m. PT.
Jermall Charlo (159.25) vs. Jorge Sebastian Heiland (158.25)
Jarrell Miller (298.75) vs. Gerald Washington (248)
Katie Taylor (134.5) vs. Jasmine Clarkson (133.5)
