Two local prospects have been added to the ShoBox: The New
Generation event on FMay 13. The event will go down on the east
side of Las Vegas inside Sam’s Town Hotel Casino and will be
televised live on Showtime beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Ronald Gavril (15-1, 11 KOs) will stand opposite Colombian veteran Juan Camilo Novoa (25-6-1, 23 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight affair. Gavril, originally from Romania, is seeking his fifth straight victory. He last fought on Dec. 18 when he stopped Mariano Hilario in the fourth. Novoa, a 2004 Olympian, has won 11 of his last 12 fights by knockout, all within four rounds.
Gavril’s TMT stablemate, Sanjarbek Rakhmanov (4-0, 3 KOs), will take on Alfonso Olvera (7-2, 3 KOs) in a welterweight tussle. The Uzbekistan native had his knockout streak snapped on the Mayweather-Berto undercard in September when he dominated Farkhad Sharipov en route to a six-round unanimous decision.
The ShoBox quadrupleheader is slated to be headlined by a 10-round cruiserweight battle between Andrew Tabiti (12-0, 11 KOs) and Keith Tapia (16-0, 11 KOs). The co-featured attraction will see fellow cruiserweights Michael Hunter (11-0, 8 KOs), a 2012 U.S. Olympian, and Isiah Thomas (15-0, 6 KOs) square off in a 10-round affair.
