Former Champ Cavalari to Fight Zhuravlev in Glory 43 SuperFight Series Main Event
Former Glory light heavyweight champion Saulo Cavalari will
headline the Glory 43 SuperFight Series undercard, the promotion
announced Wednesday afternoon. The action will go down July 14 at
the Theater at Madison Square Garden and standing opposite “Cassius
Clay” will be Pavel Zhuravlev.
Cavalari (60-5, 49 KOs) captured the Glory light heavyweight crown at Bellator “Dynamite” back in September 2015 by edging Zack Mwekassa via majority decision. The Brazilian didn’t hold the title long as he relinquished it to Artem Vakhitov in his first defense via decision at Glory 28: Paris. He landed a chance to regain his title at Glory 38: Chicago in February, but was vanquished in the second round to Vakhitov. Now ranked No. 4 in the division, he’s looking to get back on track.
Zhuravlev (70-11, 26 KOs) toppled Cavalari in the Final 16 round of
the K-1 World Grand Prix 2012 and made it all the way to the
semifinals of that tournament, but lost to Pride legend Mirko
Filipovic on points. The Ukrainian has since captured a few
tournament titles long the way and is coming off a first-round
knockout of Zinedine Hameur-Lain at Glory 35: Nice last
November.
An injury to featherweight contender Chris Mauceri has removed him from the marquee and stepping in to fill his spot will be Arthur Sorsor, who will face Road to Glory UK tournament champ Bailey Sugden (8-1, 2 KOs).
Rounding out the Glory 43 SuperFight Series undercard is a middleweight bout between Ariel Sepulveda and Joe Taylor; a featherweight scrap featuring Mo Abdurahman and Chenchen Li; Itay Gershon will collide with Rafal Dudek at lightweight; and Anissa Meksen will take on Jady Menezes at super bantamweight.
The Glory 43 SuperFight Series undercard will stream live on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The Glory 43: New York main card, which is slated to be anchored largely by a four-man one-night featherweight contender tournament, will stream live on ESPN3 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
