Diego Sanchez: ‘The Nightmare’ is Over




“The Nightmare” is over and it’s time for “The Dream.”

Diego Sanchez has always been an eccentric character since he burst onto the MMA scene and won the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” but no one can deny his action-packed fighting style that has resulted in many memorable fights inside the octagon.

Sanchez admits he got caught up in partying and the trappings of fame during his rise in the UFC. Sanchez cut all the negativity out of his life after he hit “rock bottom” following his loss to B.J. Penn for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 107 in 2009.

“Everything has changed for me,” said Sanchez, who changed his nickname from “The Nightmare” to “The Dream.” “I’ve completely restructured my life and grown up. I’m married. I’m living the right life with Jesus Christ. I changed my life through Jesus and dedicated it to God. That’s what it’s all about. This sport of fighting is just a platform for me to go to the churches and speak to youth groups and tell them about life and the life I got sucked into with all the partying, fame and all that nonsense.”
