Boxing PPV Weigh-in Results: Roy Jones Jr., Bobby Gunn Make Weight

Roy Jones Jr. is easily one of the greatest boxers of the past 50 years and he continues to climb through the ropes, some 28 years after making his professional debut. He will be action on Friday night in the main event of a pay-per-view event against former bareknuckle brawler Bobby Gunn for a regional cruiserweight belt.

At Thursday’s weigh-ins, both combatants came in on weight, giving their showdown the green light. Gunn is coming off a loss to former light heavyweight world champion Glen Johnson in December 2013. He also was stopped by former super middleweight king James Toney in ’12 and came up short against Tomasz Adamek in ’09 for the IBF world cruiserweight title. “The Celtic Warrior” was the first to tip the scale and Gunn (21-6-1, 18 KOs) was on point; he weighed in at 197.4 pounds.

Jones, who was given a silver medal in the ’88 Olympics after being robbed in the gold medal match, has snatched up world titles at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. Though considerably past his prime, Jones had won eight in a row before being starched by Enzo Maccarinelli. He has since rebounded with two more wins, his most recent triumph over Rodney Moore, who came in on a 12-fight losing streak, last August. Jones (64-9, 46 KOs) checked in at 199 pounds.

Jones will collide with Gunn for $24.99; the PPV telecast will begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
