Alberto Machado Dominates Carlos Morales in GBP on ESPN2 Main Event
Rising featherweight contender Alberto Machado kept his unblemished
record in tact with a dominant performance over 10 rounds Friday
night, capping off a solid Golden Boy promotions card that was
televised on ESPN2.
Machado (18-0, 15 KOs) did virtually whatever he wanted against Carlos Morales inside Complejo Ferial de Puerto Rico in Ponce and nearly scored a highlight reel knockout in the second. “El Explosivo” connected with a perfect shot to the head, sending the Mexican face first onto the canvas. Morales beat the count, though, and survived to not only hear the bell, but also until the end of the allotted distance.
The Puerto Rican was masterful and was awarded with a well-earned unanimous decision. The judges scored it 99-90 (twice) and 98-91 for the local fighter, who scooped up a regional 126-pound title along the way. Morales dropped to 16-2-3 with 6 KOs.
In the televised co-feature, bantamweight prospect Nate Green was knocked off his feet in the second to win a disputed eight-round unanimous decision over Emanuel Rivera. Green (9-2, 2 KOs) boxed well in spurts, but Rivera (17-2, 11 KOs) was the aggressor and appeared to have landed the overall better punches. The fight was close but all three judges sided with Green with scores of 77-74; many in the crowd booed the verdict.
